A New Partnership Rooted in History and Learning

The St. Vital Museum is proud to announce a new and exciting partnership with the Louis Riel School Division—one that builds on a shared commitment to education, community, and preserving local history.
Schools have always played a vital role in shaping the identity of St. Vital. For generations, they have been places where friendships were formed, lessons were learned, and lifelong memories were created. The story begins as early as 1860, when the first St. Vital School opened under the care of the Grey Nuns, laying the foundation for education in the community. Over time, education in the area evolved, culminating in the creation of the Louis Riel School Division in 1998 through the amalgamation of the Norwood and St. Boniface School Divisions, followed by the inclusion of St. Vital schools in 2001 to form the division as it exists today.
As of 2025, the division serves over 40 schools from Kindergarten through Grade 12, with 22 located right here in St. Vital, along with two French-language schools that further enrich the educational landscape.
In July 2025, the St. Vital Museum formally entered into partnership with the Louis Riel School Division, opening the door to new opportunities for students and educators alike. Together, we are exploring meaningful ways to connect the classroom with community history. This includes welcoming students into the museum for guided tours, bringing history directly into schools through mobile display kits and presentations, and collaborating with students from the Arts and Technology Centre to create engaging video content for museum exhibits.
Additional opportunities include coordinating student-led research projects, developing interactive learning experiences, and introducing creative initiatives such as contests and special programming. This partnership reflects a shared belief that history is most powerful when it is experienced, explored, and brought to life by the next generation.
Together, we are not only preserving the story of St. Vital—we are inviting students to become part of it.
