Membership
As a Member, you will receive:
- Updates on museum activities through our complimentary newsletter,
The St. Vital Historian, published quarterly
- Invitations to exhibit openings and special events
- Free access to the centre and research facilities
- Opportunity to vote at the Annual General Meeting held each November
- Occasion to attend the monthly director's meetings, usually held
on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m.

Donations
Donations are gratefully accepted and tax receipts are issued for donations greater than
$10.00. Send cheque or money order to:

We also accept donations in the form of old photographs, miscellaneous household &
job related articles, archaeological objects, costumes, uniforms & sports equipment,
books, archival materials, maps, architectural records, prints, drawings, films, sound
recordings and printed materials; all regarding the history of St. Vital and surrounding
areas.
These treasures of the past are wanted for display in the museum.

Volunteering
St. Vital Museum volunteers have the opportunity to gain exposure to the workings of a
community-oriented museum and contribute valuable visitor services to our non-profit organization.
Requirements
Volunteers need the ability to work independently and be self-motivated to complete
projects. For non-processing duties, volunteers need the ability to work with the public.
Understanding that reliablity is critical and a having a flexible attitude is appreciated.
Computer and typing skills would be an asset but are not necessary. Ideally, candidates should
possess an admiration and appreciation of history, art and culture.
Time Commitment
Between 1-2 hours, at least once a week. The length of commitment is entirely up to you.
Benefits of becoming a Volunteer
You will gain the opportunity to learn and share knowledge and be actively involved in an
exciting part of the St. Vital Museum, gain a keener understanding of St. Vital history and a
close working relationship with volunteer staff.
Other benefits: Volunteer recognition party, letter & job reference upon request.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Acquisitions Assisting with determining relevance and quality of items offered to the museum, particularly artifacts. May include doing archival repairs. Some experience working with historical materials preferred
Board of Directors Taking a leadership role in the SVHS. Note: directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting each fall
Cataloguing Assisting with cataloguing and inventory, and work towards development of a computerized catalogue of the museum’s collection. Library and/or cataloguing experience preferred
Computer processing Data entry to update the museum’s records and catalogue; scanning photos and using software like PhotoShop for ongoing photo inventory project; word processing
Education Providing assistance to visitors at the museum; assisting with presentations outside the museum (e.g. mall displays, school visits)
Exhibit Planning Planning and putting together themes, exhibits, displays
General labour Providing ongoing maintenance of the museum including things like moving displays, painting, minor repairs
News clipping Reviewing, clipping and filing on a regular basis articles about St. Vital from newspapers and other publications (e.g. provincial MLA constituency reports)
Processing Working with photos, letters, manuscripts, maps, etc., tasks might include sorting material into categories; cleaning (e.g. remove staples, flatten); photocopying; maintaining files (updating, weeding, etc)
Research/Writing Researching (may include interviewing) and writing biographies, articles and other materials as needed for displays, presentations, newsletter, website
Volunteers must be reliable, self-motivated to complete projects and, in some cases, willing to work independently. Some positions involve working with the public, so a positive manner is required. All volunteers should possess an appreciation of history, art and culture.
