The Guess Who's St. Vital Connection
|
The St. Vital Museum is now home to some Guess Who memorabilia donated by bassist Jim Kale.
Kale has donated his gold record of the band’s first hit Shaking All Over plus his five Maple
Leaf Awards which were the forerunner of the Junos. He also donated his etched glass Canadian
Music Hall of Fame Award plus a Prairie Music award.

Jim Kale at the Glenlee Teen Canteen in the 1960s

A large framed picture of Kale, given by the music industry for the band’s smash American Woman,
the world’s top-selling album in 1970 is now on display. The band even played their mega-hit on
the highly popular Ed Sullivan Show.
Kale, who grew up on Clonard, Dunraven and Blenheim Avenues, is a graduate of Glenwood School
and Glenlawn Collegiate. A founding member of the Guess Who, from the days with Al and the
Silvertones, Kale owns the name. He still tours with the latest version of the band playing 60
dates a year though out the United States.
